How To Update Sony Xperia Z5 To Android 7.0 Nougat – (E6653) And (E6683) Variant

Sony also started rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Xperia Z5 handset recently and it’s currently reaching users across select regions over the air. Since it’s an official build, it’s distributed in a phase wise manner. However, if you can’t wait until it reaches your handset, you can also update Sony Xperia Z5 to Android 7.0 Nougat manually, using the guide below.

With the build number 32.3.A.0.372, the  Sony Xperia Z5 Nougat update is available for the E6653 and E6683 variants of the handset and it brings several improvements, like a new notification system, new messaging apps, Seamless update, Vulkan API and, of course, Doze, great for saving battery life while the phone is inactive.

Note: Before starting the manual update, please check if the official Android 7.0 Nougat for Sony Xperia Z5 is available or not for your phone, by going to Settings > About Phone > System update. If it’s not, you can follow the guide below in order to install it.

Before proceeding with installation, please consider the following details, in order to avoid any issues during the process:

  • This update is just for the Xperia Z5 variants mentioned above. Don’t try to install it on other devices, as you might end up bricking them.
  • Please perform a full backup of your phone before starting. The update will erase all your data, so you might want to keep some of the stuff you currently have on the phone.
  • Make sure that the battery level is around 50-60%, otherwise you risk experiencing an accidental shutdown in-between process.
  • Follow the instructions below carefully, without skipping any steps.

Update Sony Xperia Z5 To Android 7.0 Nougat Manually

Step 1: First of all, you need to enable USB Debugging, from the Developer Options sub menu. If you don’t see this sub menu in your phone, go to Settings > About Phone and search for the Build Number. Tap on it seven times in order to enable Developer Options.

Step 2: Download the Sony FlashTool From Above, and install the drivers. Go to FlashTool > Drivers > Flashtool-drivers.exe and install everything you need.

Step 3: Download the Android 7.0 Nougat for Sony Xperia Z5 file,  and save it on FlashTool > Firmware folder.

Step 4: Open FlashTool.exe.

Step 5: Click on Flash Device > Flash mode and select the FTF firmware you just placed in the firmware folder.

Step 6: If you prefer a clean install, check Wipe cache, data, APPS_LOG and USERDATA. On the other side, this step is not mandatory, so you might as well skip it and proceed to the next one.

Step 7: Click on OK and the software will start preparing the firmware for flashing. It should be ready pretty quick.

Step 8: After the firmware is loaded, connect your Xperia Z5 to the PC. It will ask you to turn off the phone and keep the Volume Down key pressed and plug the data cable.

Step 9: As soon as Flash mode detects the phone, the firmware will start flashing. Keep holding Volume Down until the process is complete.

Step 10: After the installation is done, stop holding the Volume Down key and power on your phone.
