Samsung Galaxy Note 7 15-Min Advertisement Reveals One More Feature: Waterproof

Samsung fans from all over the world are eagerly waiting for August 2, when the Galaxy Note 7, one of the most expected Android handsets of the year, is scheduled to make its official debut, during the Samsung Unpacked event, in New York City. Of course, a lot of specs, including the design of the smartphone, were already revealed, but we still don’t know anything about it, fact proven by one ad posted on social media by Samsung Taiwan.

The 15-second commercial shows bubbles floating upward, accompanied by a gurgling sound in the background, revealing one specific feature we’re all going to love: IP68 certification. Or, if you want, waterproof.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise though, considering that both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge also feature IP68 certification on their spec sheets, after fans criticized Sammy for not making last year’s flagship, the Galaxy S6, waterproof as well.

It’s worth mentioning that the IP68 certification means that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 can be submerged in 5-feet unsalted water for no more than 30 minutes. However, this doesn’t mean that you should take the phablet for a dive and start taking underwater footage, as previous tests demonstrated that the touchscreen isn’t that responsive in such conditions. Samsung implemented this feature for those moments when you’re all caught in the rain or taking a shower and need to answer an urgent call or message, for example.

Besides water resistance, the Galaxy Note 7 will come with a 5.7″ QHD Super AMOLED display, featuring a Snapdragon 820 chip under the hood, alongside 4 GB of RAM (some sources are pointing to 6 GB) and 64 GB of expandable storage. The camera department will be represented by a 12 MP rear-mounted snapper, with an f/1.7 aperture and 4K video capabilities, as well as a 5 MP front-facing shooter.

Other features worth mentioning are the iris scanner, for improved security, the USB Type-C connector and it’s going to be built on a metallic chassis, with a glass back.

Even though it will be launched on August 2nd, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be present in carriers’ offers starting with August 19th.
