Yesterday, during a special event, Chinese manufacturer Meizu, launched two new smartphones, the Pro 6 Plus, considered their flagship, as well as an upper mid-range device, M3X. Let’s find out a few details about each of them…
The Meizu Pro 6 Plus is definitely an impressive device, being considered by the tech community the Samsung Galaxy S7 “Plus” the South Korean manufacturer never launched. It has a metal body and rocks a 5.7″ Super AMOLED display, with a QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and Always On functionality. It’s also pressure sensitive, or, as Meizu calls it, 3D Press.
Moving on to what’s under the hood, we were surprised by the amount of processing power this phone is packing. To be more specific, it’s relying on the same processor as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, the Exynos 8890, alongside 4 GB of RAM. Depending on the storage capacity, you get different clock speeds, so for the 64 GB variant, the CPU is running at 2.0GHz, while the 128 GB variant is clocked at 2.3 GHz.
The camera department is represented by a 12 MP unit, with a Sony IMX386 sensor, with optical image stabilization and f/2.0 aperture, aided by an LED ring flash, surrounding the Laser auto-focus, which works up to 2 meters!
The Meizu Pro 6 Plus also comes with a new mTouch fingerprint scanner, with a built-in heart rate monitor, while the dedicated audio chip, made by ESS, delivers the same audio experience as the one on the LG V20. Pretty much because it’s the same chip!
The phone has a 3,400 mAh battery, which can be charged through a USB Type-C port, with fast charging. Also, the operating system is Meizu’s new Flyme 6.0, based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
It will be available in Champagne Gold, Deep Ash and Moonlight Silver. As for the price, the 64 GB version will retail at CNY 3,000, while the beefier 128 GB one will cost CNY 3,300, which roughly translates to $480.
The slightly smaller Meizu M3x comes with a 5.5″ 1080p display, while under the hood it has a MediaTek Helip P20 chip, with 3 or 4 GB of RAM, depending on the storage capacity, which counts 32 or 64 GB of RAM.
The camera setup is the same as on the Pro 6 Plus and it’s running Flyme 6.0 OS. The battery has a capacity of 3200 mAh, with fast mCharge, basically the same thing as Quick Charge 3.0. Finally, the phone has a fingerprint scanner hidden under the physical home buttons, but it lacks the heart rate sensor.
The Meizu M3X will come in Phantom Blue, Streamer Gold, Pearl White and Obsidian Black. For the 32 GB model, with 3 GB of RAM, you will pay CNY 1,700, while the 4 GB one should be priced at CNY 2,000, which is about $290.
