The highly anticipated Jio Phone was finally launched last week. We were in eager to know about the device and its support for VoLTE calls and Jio apps, in detail. But, Mukesh Ambani, the Reliance Chairman doesn’t share much about the device’s specs or abilities. Now, a report from a trust worthy source has roughly summed-up its key specs.
Accordingly, the Jio phone will feature a single SIM slot, with 4G VoLTE call support. Registrations for buying the phone is scheduled to start from August 24th, which will work on a first-come-first-serve basis. Therefore, Beta Trials for the phone is expected to start by August 15th, to facilitate the company’s plans for making the device widely available by September.
Further, it is believed that the Jio Phone will be an SIM-locked variant, such that it avoids the users to use other carrier’s SIM. But anyway, it is a 4G handset and enables calls only via VoLTE technology; and right now there is no other 4G VoLTE network in the country. Hence, it wouldn’t make any difference, even if it’s not locked.
Coming to the specs, it sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display and an alphanumeric keypad for input. As far as the other options are concerned, it will support voice commands, FM radio, microSD card, Torchlight, panic button and 22 Indian languages. As mentioned, the device is also capable of supporting various Jio apps. But sadly, it doesn’t support WhatsApp.
The company has also devised some new plans for the Jio Phone. As per it, the customers who recharge for the INR 153 plan, will get unlimited data, free calls, SMS and can also access the Jio apps. By recharging for INR 309, you can be able to connect your phone to the TV. And there are also sachet packs, such as INR 24 (two days validity) and INR 54 that is valid for seven days.
It is believed that the 4G VoLTE feature phone is going to make a new history in the low-end phone segment. In terms of business, the company has formulated its known clever marketing move, ‘zero cost for the phone’.
