How To Install TWRP Recovery on Moto G5 Plus Smartphone

If you’re looking forward to install a custom ROM or take customization one step further on your Moto G5 Plus, you should know that the TWRP Recovery is now available for download, as the developers over at XDA found a way to root the phone and eventually install the recovery.

Since the phone has an unlockable bootloader, you can easily install TWRP on Moto G5 Plus, by simply following a few steps, presented in our short guide below.

Important Advice

 

Please read the aspects below carefully and make sure you consider all of them, in order to avoid any eventual issues:

  • In order to install the TWRP Recovery, your phone needs to be rooted.
  • The process will erase the data on your phone, so our advice is to take a complete backup and only then proceed.
  • Check your battery level and make sure it’s at least at 50%, so you can prevent an accidental shutdown, exactly in the middle of the process.
  • Follow the instructions below carefully, making sure you don’t skip any of them, since this can affect your phone’s functionality.

 

Download Required Files

 

Download ADB and Fastboot Driver For Windows – Download

Download TWRP For Moto G5 Plus –  XDA 

 

Install TWRP on Moto G5 Plus

 

Step 1: In your phone’s Settings menu, go to About > Build Number and tap on it 7 times. This will enable the Developer Options menu.

Step 2: From the Developer Options menu, enable the USB Debugging option.

Step 3: Download the ADB and Fastboot driver for your Moto G5 Plus From above, then install it on your PC.

Step 4: Download the TWRP Recovery for Moto G5 Plus from above and put it in the same folder when you’ve just installed ADB.

Step 5: Rename the Recovery file to recovery.img.

Step 6: Go to the folder where you have ADB installed and open a command window, by pressing and holding Shift and the Right click key, anywhere in the folder.

Step 7: Connect the phone to your PC.

Step 8: Reboot your Moto G5 Plus into Fastboot mode, by typing adb reboot bootloader

Step 9: After entering the Fastboot mode, check your connection by typing fastboot devicesIf this returns your phone’s serial number, it means that it’s properly connected.

Step 10: Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.imgthen press enter. This will start flashing the TWRP recovery on your phone. It should take around 10 minutes.

Step 11: Reboot your device.

    tried downloading twrp for motog5 plus…there is no download link…

      Download link already exist but there is a server problem..so just wait , we have no control over it.

    Wait, you have to have root to install TWRP but don’t you need TWRP installed to flash the root files?
    Are you sure about that order? I thought you flash TWRP in Fastboot (bootloader) mode then boot into TWRP and flash the root files (Magisk etc)? Can you clarify?

      First you have to root your device then in fastboot mode when you type “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” it’ll install TWRP you can replace “run” instead of “flash” in the above command to just run TWRP once. When I did this on my MOTO E it was quite confusing but in the end rooting first and then flashing TWRP worked.
