How To

How To Install Official TWRP on Redmi Note 3

We know you like to perform cool experiments on your smartphone, and that’s awesome, as we can totally relate. However, this wouldn’t be possible without Team Win Recovery Project, an open-source software custom recovery image for handsets running Android. Sounds complicated? OK, you probably know it as TWRP.

The recovery is always useful, being great for flashing zip files and rooting phones. And one of the most popular phones on which such things are done is Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3. Finally, the official version for the handset is available, so today we’re talking about how to install the official TWRP on Redmi Note 3.

What You Need To Install ?

  • A Redmi Note 3 device, with an unlocked bootloader
  • The official TWRP file. Download it from here and rename it TWRP.img – Link
  • ADB and Fastboot, installed on your PC.
  • Battery level above 60%. However, our recommendation would be to have the phone fully charged before starting the process, to prevent an accidental shutdown.

Installation Guide

Step 1: Download the TWRP file and rename it, as mentioned above. When you’re done, move the file to the ADB folder, also mentioned above.

Step 2: Open the ADB folder and then the command terminal window, by pressing shift and right click anywhere within the folder. Select Open Command Prompt.

Step 3: Boot your Redmi Note 3 in Fastboot mode, by turning it off then pressing Volume Down and the Power button simultaneously. Once you see the Fastboot logo, release the buttons.

Step 4: Connect your phone to your PC, through USB.

Step 5: With Command Prompt open, type the following command and see if your phone is connected properly and recognized by the PC

C:\adb>fastboot devices

If everything is OK, you will see a number on the screen, alongside the word ‘fastboot’.

Step 6: Flash the TWRP recovery on your Redmi Note 3, entering the following command:

Fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img

Fastboot Flash Recovery

Step 7: The installation of the TWRP recovery should be completed. Everything you need to do is boot your TWRP screen, running the following command:

Fastboot boot TWRP.img

Fastboot Boot TWRP

Step 8: If everything was done correctly, your Redmi Note 3 will automatically reboot into recovery mode and the TWRP recovery user interface will be displayed.

And that’s it, the installation process is completed! It might be a bit complicated at first, but if you follow these instructions correctly, things should go smooth. If you don’t feel able to do it all by yourself, it’s recommended to ask somebody experienced to assist you, in order to avoid unpleasant situations or risk damaging your phone.
