If you’re the owner of a OnePlus 2, you can now enjoy all the new features brought by Google’s Android 7.1.1. Nougat, as the Chinese manufacturer just released the Hydrogen OS based on 7.1.1 Nougat for the OnePlus 2, a stable version, perfect for day by day use.
However, it’s worth mentioning that we’re talking about the Chinese version of Hydrogen OS, with a custom user interface and no Google services, so you should keep these in mind while installing it. Still, it’s an almost Stock Android experience, so if you want to enjoy the 7.1.1 Nougat on OnePlus 2, everything you need to do is follow the instructions in the guide below!
Please consider the following aspects, in order to avoid any unpleasant issues during the installation:
- The method is just for the OnePlus 2, so don’t try installing it on another handset, since it won’t work at all.
- In order to be able to install it, your bootloader must be unlocked and you also need to have a TWRP Recovery installed.
- The process will fully erase the data on the phone, so our recommendation is to take a full backup of the phone and then proceed.
- Please check the battery level! It must be at least 50%, otherwise you risk experiencing an accidental shutdown, in-between the process.
- Follow the instructions below carefully!

Install Hydrogen OS (7.1.1 Nougat) on OnePlus 2
Step 1: Download and Install a TWRP Recovery on your phone. If you already have one, you can skip this step and proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Download the Nougat-based Hydrogen OS for OnePlus 2 file from above and save it on your device.
Step 3: Download the Gapps package from above and save it on your phone as well.
Step 4: Press and hold Volume Down + Power Button, in order to boot the phone into Recovery Mode.
Step 5: While you are in TWRP Recovery mode, proceed with making a Nandroid backup, if something goes wrong.
Step 6: Now, it’s time to make a Factory Reset, for a clean installations, so Go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe and select Wipe cache, Dalvik cache, System and Data. Swipe right in order to confirm.
Step 7: Go to the Install menu and search for the ROM file. Swipe in order to begin the installation process, which should take around 10 minutes.
Step 8: Repeat the step above for the Gapps .zip file and SuperSu.
Step 9: Go again to Wipe > Advanced Wipe, but this time, select only Wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
Step 10: Reboot the phone.
