Before starting the updating process, please take a few moments and consider the following recommendations, for a hassle-free installation:
- This firmware is just for the Huawei Mate 9 MHA-L09. Don’t try it on other phone, since it will not work at all.
- In order to be able to install it, the phone needs to be on stock firmware and stock recovery.
- The process may erase the data you have on the phone, so it’s better to take a complete backup, just to avoid an unpleasant situation.
- Check the battery level and make sure it’s around 50-60%, so you can prevent an accidental shutdown.
- Follow all the steps in the guide carefully!

Install Nougat B184 on Huawei Mate 9
Step 1: Unlock your phone’s bootloader. If it’s already unlocked, you can skip this step.
Step 2: Download the HWOTA_MHA.zip file, available here – Download, then extract it on your PC or the phone’s microSD card.
Step 3: Download the three files from above and rename them as it follows: “update_data_full_public.zip” To “update_data_public.zip” and “update_full_MHA-L29_hw_eu.zip To “update_all_hw.zip“.
Step 4: Copy the renamed files in the SD card or on your PC, in the C:\..\HWOTA\update folder.
Step 5: Run the update.bat file as administrator. You will be asked if you copied the files, then press any key to continue.
Step 6: Connect the phone to a PC and reboot it into Bootloader mode. This can be done by pressing and holding Volume Down and Power, or by simply using the ‘adb reboot bootloader‘ command.
Step 7: The previous step will install TWRP on your phone. After it’s done, disconnect the cable and turn off the phone, by using Volume Up and Power.
Step 8: After turning off the phone and entering TWRP, plug the data cable again and press Enter on your PC.
Step 9: Type 1 and press enter if the update files are in the HWOTA folder on the microSD card or press 2 and enter if they’re on your PC.
Step 10: You will be asked about the update type, so once again, type 1 and press enter twice. This will begin the installation.
Step 11: Wait for around 10 minutes, until the process is ready.
Step 1: Unlock your phone’s bootloader, in order to proceed to the next step. If it’s unlocked, you can ignore it.
Step 2: Download Nougat B184 For Huawei Mate 9 from above, and save them on your device.
Step 3: Boot the phone into TWRP Recovery.
Step 4: While in TWRP, flash the update.zip file. Once it’s done, without rebooting, proceed to the next one.
Step 5: Flash update_full_hw_usa.zip and wait for ~10 minutes, until the update is ready.
Step 6: Reboot your phone.
