We have some good news for all you ZUK Z2 users out there! The Android 7.0 Nougat update can be now enjoyed on the handset, as the CyanogenMod 14.1 custom ROM is now available for download. Therefore, if you want to install CM14.1 on ZUK Z2, simply follow the instructions below!
The ROM is an unofficial build, so it’s expected to contain bugs, but it’s still usable. In order to install it, your phone needs to be rooted and have a custom TWRP recovery installed. You will enjoy all the new features brought by 7.0 Nougat, like LiveDisplay, Privacy Guard, Profiles, Protected App and many more!
Known Issues, Fixes
As mentioned above, there are a couple of bugs the CM14.1 for ZUK Z2 has. The camera video recording doesn’t work with this build and you might experience some other camera issues as well.
Also, if you are dealing with the screen glitch issues, just add the following lines to the build.prop:
Warnings & Requirements
Before proceeding to installation, please consider the following aspects:
- This version of the CM14.1 is just for the ZUK Z2, so don’t try installing it on another device, since it won’t work.
- It’s an initial Nougat Alpha build, so it contains bugs.
- The updating process will erase all your data, so make sure you perform a full backup of the phone before starting, in order to avoid an unpleasant situation.
- Make sure your battery level is between 50 and 60 percent, otherwise you risk experiencing an accidental shutdown.
- Follow the instructions below carefully, so you can avoid bricking your phone.
Download CM14.1 For ZUK Z2
Install CM14.1 ROM on ZUK Z2
Step 1: Download and install a custom recovery on your ZUK Z2. If you already have it, you can skip this step and proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Download the CM14. for ZUK Z2, using above link, and save it on your device.
Step 3: Download the Gapps package, and save it on your phone as well.
Step 4: Pressing and holding Volume Down and the Power Button, enter Recovery Mode.
Step 5: Create a Nandroid backup for all your data, if anything goes wrong.
Step 6: Now, it’s time to do a Factory Reset. Go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe and select the following options: Wipe cache, Dalvik cache, System and data. Swipe in order to confirm the Reset.
Step 7: Go to Install and locate the CM14.1 ROM .zip file and swipe in order to begin the installation. It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes.
Step 8: Repeat the step above for the Gapps .zip file and the Temporary Wi-Fi fix. The latter can be downloaded from here.
Step 9: Go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe and this time select only Wipe cache and Dalvik cache.
Step 10: Reboot your phone.
