Even though you won’t receive the official update for your Xperia Z3, there’s no reason to be upset, as the Android 7.0 Nougat ROM for Sony Xperia Z3 is already available for the phone, after Google released it for multiple Nexus devices.
Thnaks to an XDA Developers member, you can now Download and install Android 7.0 Nougat ROM On Sony Xperia Z3, as long as the phone is rooted and it has a TWRP recovery installed. However, you should know that we’re talking about an alpha build, so quite a few features are missing, but this doesn’t mean that the ROM isn’t usable! Below you can find everything you need to know before proceeding to installation.
The current Android 7.0 Nougat ROM for Sony Xperia Z3 comes with a few bugs and some of the basic features might be causing issues. Below you can find a list with everything that works and what doesn’t work on this custom ROM.

Before starting the installation, please consider the following instructions:
- The ROM works solely for the Sony Xperia Z3. Don’t install it on any other devices.
- The updating process will completely erase all your date. It’s highly advisable to perform a full backup of your phone before starting and then proceed.
- Follow the steps below correctly, otherwise you risk bricking your phone.
- Make sure the battery level is above 60%. However, our recommendation is to start with a fully charged battery, in order to avoid an accidental shutdown.

Install Android 7.0 Nougat ROM On Sony Xperia Z3
Step 1: Download and install a custom recovery on your Sony Xperia Z3. If you already have one, please skip this step.
Step 2: Download the Android 7.0 Nougat ROM for Sony Xperia Z3 zip file and save it on your phone, on the SD card.
Step 3: Download the Gapps file here –Download Gapps For Android 7.0 Nougat, and save it on your device, on the SD card.
Step 4: Boot your device into Recovery mode, by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power button.
Step 5: While in Recovery mode, create a Nandroid backup for all your data, in order to avoid all the stuff from your phone.
Step 6: Now it’s time to do a Factory Reset. Head over to Wipe > Advanced Wipe and select Wipe cache, Dalvik cache, System, and date. Swipe in order to confirm. Attention, this will clear all your internal memory.
Step 7: After factory resetting your phone, go to install and locate the Android 7.0 Nougat ROM zip file. Select it and swipe in order to start the installation process. It should take around 10 minutes.
Step 8: Repeat Step 7, but for the Gapps file.
Step 9: Go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe and select cache and Dalvik cache.
Step 10: Reboot your Sony Xperia Z3.
