We all are very much familiar with Bluetooth technology. We have adopted this smart wireless way of transferring data since 1994 when a telecom company Ericsson invented it. It grew very much advance since then. Now we are using 4th version of Bluetooth and that is going to change as the next generation of this technology is here. Bluetooth 5 is finally here and we can see them coming to our device in late 2016 or early 2017.
The executive director of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group Mr. Mark Powell said,
“Bluetooth 5 will transform the way people experience the IoT by making it something that happens simply and seamlessly around them”.
And he also quoted that “Increasing operation range will enable connections to IoT devices that extend far beyond the walls of a typical home, while increasing speed supports faster data transfers and software updates for devices. And now with the ability to broadcast a much richer set of information, Bluetooth 5 will make beacons, location awareness, and other connection-less services an even more relevant part of an effortless and seamless IoT experience”
This new generation is much faster and better than the one currently we use. There are three major changes that this next gen Bluetooth is going to bring in our digital world. Which are the operating range, transfer rate and the capacity of connection-less data.
The operating range of Bluetooth is going to increase by four times of the current range. That means you will be able to use this technology in the radius of 1000+ feet. This is a big change as you will be able to communicate with all of your Bluetooth enabled devices from a much greater distance. Music lovers are going to love this enhancement as they will be able to beam their speakers from a larger distance. Yet this is the theoretical data, the actual performance may very but it is yet to be seen.
The data transfer speed of this next gen Bluetooth 5.0 is going to be doubled. That means you will experience a big quality enhancement in all your Bluetooth enabled audio devices as more data can be transferred in less time the output result will surely increase.
And the third advancement is 800 percent increment in the capacity of connection-less data broadcast. The Bluetooth 5.0 is also going to add some navigational features. This will be easily used in indoor environments and also in all the location aware devices. This can be really helpful for example this can help you find a food section in the shopping center.
This new update will also improve power consumption and performance factor. But you might need to buy a new device as this will require hardware replacement. But one thing is sure that this will definitely enrich user experience as this technology will be quickly adopted in all on our digital devices.
Mr. Luke Sanger who is the CEO and co-founder of Blossom group said
“Implementing Bluetooth as our wireless technology and joining the SIG organisation was the obvious choice to ensure our products’ success,”
and added that “Bluetooth has the ubiquity of a trusted wireless communication platform and a great history of supporting market trends and working with developers and members to produce ground-breaking products and applications. We know Bluetooth will stay ahead of the game by working with its members and embracing technological advancements – from power efficiency to IoT connectivity – to push the limits of innovation.”
