We had been hearing so much about the Asus Zenfone AR, since the beginning of this year. The point of which it was holding such a high level of expectations is, it’s the world’s first smartphone to support both the Google Tango AR and Daydream VR. And finally, after a long wait, the device is becoming available for purchase, for which the pre-orders are now being accepted in the US.
Accordingly, the carrier variant of the handset can be pre-ordered in the country, exclusively on Verizon. As far as the pricing is concerned, Verizon has put up the device with the price tag of $648. A monthly payment plan is also provided as an option, which demands $27 per month for 24 months. Sadly, there is no information about the shipping date, as of now.
Let’s have short look on the device’s specs. It sports a 5.7-inch WQHD AMOLED display, delivering 2560 x 1440 px resolution; and is powered by a 2.4GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 821 processor, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat OS and is packed with a 3,300mAh battery to have it running.
Coming to the imaging department, to our surprise, it has got three cameras on the rear side. Two of them are dedicated to the motion tracking and depth sensing capabilities that are associated with its AR and VR support. Whereas, the other one is a 23MP camera, for clicking pictures and videos; and up front, there is an 8MP selfie shooter.
Though only the carrier variant of the phone has showed-up now, we expect that an unlocked version will also be released soon in the near future.
