Back in August, the first rumours about a potential 10.5″ iPad started spreading, but now, the rumours were finally confirmed by “Taiwan-based supply chain makers” and it seems that the Cupertino-based manufacturer will indeed unveil a new tablet!
Apple is expected to start the production of the new iPad this December, meaning that the tablet should be launched somewhere around the second quarter of next year.
Rumours claim that the 10.5″ tablet will be released alongside a revamped version of the 12.9-inch iPad, both of them being powered by the new Apple A10X chipset. And they have big plans for this new tablet, since analysts claim that it should sell in 2 million units in the first quarter, reaching even 5-6 million sales by the end of the year.
It seems that the main reason behind Apple’s decision to manufacture a tablet in this size comes after observing the request, especially in the business and education sectors in the United States. To be more specific, 9.7″ is a bit too small, while the massive 12.9″ iPad Pro is way too big, so it’s impossible to sell it to consumers in these areas.
Besides the 10.5″ variant, Apple should also introduce a new 9.7″ model, in early 2017, but with an entry-level configuration, (powered by a A9X chipset, most likely, like the current 9.7″ model) compared to the bigger models, which are expected to be some serious power houses. Also, the priced should be lower as well, since they’re planning to compete with similar Android tablets.
